RPA Statement on Obama’s Supreme Court Nominee

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Republican Party of Arkansas released the following statement from Chairman Doyle Webb on President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee:

“Less than two years ago, the American people chose to elect a Republican Senate to check-and-balance the president’s liberal agenda. The nomination of a Supreme Court Justice from President Obama in the eleventh hour of his presidency not only undermines the voice of American voters, but it further shows that Democrats are only concerned with pushing a political agenda.”

“Just as the president has authority to nominate a Supreme Court Justice, the Constitution also gives the U.S. Senate the same authority to provide consent. The Constitution does not require a confirmation. Republicans believe that the nomination should be left to the voters in November instead of through Obama’s attempt to tip the scale to favor a liberal court with his nominee.”
