Democrat Legislator Switches to GOP

State Representative Linda Collins-Smith Announces Party Switch

Little Rock, Ark. – The Republican Party of Arkansas if proud to welcome State Representative Linda Collins-Smith of Pocahontas, who officially announced her switch to the Republican Party of Arkansas. Today, Republican Party officials released the following statements:

Republican Party of Arkansas (RPA) Chairman Doyle Webb:

“We welcome Rep. Linda Collins-Smith to the Republican Party of Arkansas and as a new conservative voice in the House Republican Caucus. Her decision is further proof that there is no room for conservatives in the Democratic Party, which is why Arkansas voters elected a record number of Republicans to the General Assembly and Congress last year. We look forward to Rep. Collins-Smith working with House Republicans to lower taxes on Arkansas families and create opportunities for businesses to put Arkansans back to work as we fight to overcome the highest unemployment in 24 years.”

U.S. Senator John Boozman:

"We are proud to welcome Linda to the Republican Party of Arkansas. She has a stellar reputation as a public servant and as a staunch representative of her constituent’s views.  The reality is, national Democrats have moved so far to the left that their party is no longer representative of people of Arkansas. Linda’s switch is a confirmation of that."

U.S. Congressman Rick Crawford (AR-1):

“Representative Collins-Smith has a distinguished record of promoting tourism and job creation in Northeast Arkansas and for our state as a whole. She understands that job-killing regulations hurt small businesses, as does government’s insatiable appetite for higher taxes and more spending. I’ve heard from many Democrats who, like Representative Collins-Smith, say that they just don’t feel comfortable with the direction President Obama has taken the party. We welcome her into the Republican Party and are eager to work with her and every like-minded person, regardless of party affiliation, to advance job-creating initiatives and curtail out-of-control government spending.”

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus:

“We welcome State Representative Linda Collins-Smith into the Republican Party. Our doors are always open to those who believe in individual liberty and free enterprise. Today’s switch is a clear indication that Republicans have changed the conversation and are leading the way to turn our economy around and help job creators. It’s clear Rep. Collins-Smith didn’t want to be a part of the Democratic Party that refuses to move away from Barack Obama’s economic malaise and run-away spending that has our country headed towards a cliff.”
